Seth Godin, easily my favorite non-friend/family blog that I read, posted about Signals vs. Noise recently. You should read it. Two thoughts:
- What can we do to turn down the noise in our life so we can hear God’s signal?
- Are we reflecting God’s signal or broadcasting white noise?
The good news? To borrow a quote from Firefly: “You can’t stop the Signal.”
I understand signal to noise ratio(SNR). Too much noise blurs communication. I think in today’s world, there are a few ways to improve the SNR. Literally block or cut out the noise, i.e., turn some things off; better filters. Get more focused, fine tune the bandwidth for receiving the signal.
Select what noise you can put up with to better help understand the value of the signal. Maybe that doesn’t make sense. I think I mean you can’t completely tune out the world and live in it, but we have to be aware of the world to live in it. The signal helps live in the world.
I love Tim’s comments! Keep posting, Tim–you add richness and depth to the discussion.
Me too. You rock, Tim!
