How I Got Out of Changing a Poopy Diaper

Jaime changes most of Addison’s diapers, just by virtue of the fact that she’s home with her more often than I am.  So when I’m home, I like to help out with the diapers.  I can’t imagine anyone saying it’s fun to change the diaper, but the time with her on the changing table can be fun as she smiles and kicks through the process.

Last night, as we got home from the Superbowl party we were at, it smelled like something was burning in the car.  Rather than just assume we had to take it to the shop to check it out, I thought I’d pop the hood and look around.  I’m not super handy with fixing cars, so I’m not sure what I expected to find that I could fix, but it’s the manly thing to do so I did it.

What I found got me off the diaper hook.  It seems that it was not a belt going bad or the oil being too low.  Nope.  Instead, it was a medium-sized furry creature with a longish tail.  I’m thinking it crawled up in there after Jaime parked the car because it was warm, then fell asleep.  Only to be baked next time we took the car out.  Nice.

About 20 minutes later, I had gotten it out and into the trash without getting any on me.  Go me!

EWWWWW!!! How weird! and disgusting! Did Jaime freak out? I would have. What did you get it out with?

OK – I guess that is a pretty good reason! Sounds like when they have stomach bug. Eric takes clean up and I cuddle in the bathroom with the sick child. It’s not a great situation for either of us – but I’ll take the child in most cases!

I used a broken golf club first, but that just pried it loose. Then i wrapped my hands in a cloth nail apron and pulled it out with my hands.

    I’m not gonna lie…that’s pretty gross…

Was it a horse? Do you notice you don’t have the horse-power anymore?

Medium sized furry creature with a longish tail? I’m hoping it was a squirrel and not a rat. Were you just trying to be nice by letting us guess? 😉

I don’t think it was a squirrel. I’m trying not to ask too many questions. I’m just glad it wasn’t a neighbor’s cat.

I’m also glad it happened when Jason was home… and that we didn’t end up taking the car to the mechanic. 🙂

This happened at my house when I was in high school, except it was our cat. Made a terrible noise, too. 🙁

Definitely not a squirrel… Could have been a rat, or possibly a small racoon? We have forest behind our house, so any number of critters could find their way into our garage. I don’t see many critters, let alone cooked ones, to know for certain what it was. 🙂

Thank God it wasn’t a cat! I don’t think I could handle that! Though slightly disturbing that you don’t know WHAT it was.

It was late at night, and dark. He just kept saying “it had a long snout.”

I hear BBQ Racoon is good eating. Could have been a creative Superbowl tailgate dish.

Long snout and long (unfurry) tail – could have been a possum. Mark says that they are good eatin’.

For the benefit of anyone who may ever come to our house for dinner, I would just say that we do not make a habit out of eating wild animals that find creative ways to die here at our house. No BBQ raccoon, no possum, and nothing else we have to scrape off the engine.

I would definitely have taken the diaper duty. I’ve seen some really mean possums!
